TREATMENTS

Included in your treatment time is an assessment, discussion of treatment goals and treatment planning to help determine the most appropriate approach for your treatment.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Relaxation Massage

This type of massage treatment is strictly for the purposes of rest and relaxation. This massage technique is not designed for therapeutic effects or for dealing with chronic pain or discomfort.

The massage involves the therapist applying gentle to medium pressure of the hands to the body, gently manipulating the tissue to promote relaxation. It is not designed for working the body's deeper muscles but just a gentle kneading of the outer layers of the body tissue. It will cover a wide range of body areas, including the back, legs, feet, arms, hands, head and neck.

Prenatal Massage

It is not only the baby that is developing when you are pregnant – a pregnant person's body is continually adapting to the physical changes of pregnancy and weight distribution. This explains why you feel a bit stiffer and feel pain more often. This can usually be attributed to the hormone relaxin, which makes joints, tendons, and ligaments move more freely during pregnancy, which can cause irritation and instability in a pregnant body. Massage therapy can help you achieve a more comfortable nine months by addressing common symptoms such as low back and hip pain, change in posture, restless sleep, calf cramping, and swelling in hands and feet.

To make the session more comfortable, specially designed body system cushions can be used, which allows you to lie face down for your prenatal massage.  Our tables easily adjust to a semi-reclined position, allowing you to safely and comfortably lie on your back. Alternative positioning is also available.

Prevention | Rehabilitative

Massage therapy can benefit both the prevention and rehabilitation of various health issues. It can help relax muscles, reduce tension, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being.

Regular massages can help manage stress by relaxing the body and mind. Reduced stress can prevent the development of various stress-related health issues. Massage can prevent the buildup of muscle tension, which can lead to chronic pain or injuries over time. Regular massage can improve joint flexibility and range of motion, reducing the risk of injuries due to stiffness.

After an injury, massage can help reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle tension. It can also aid in restoring mobility and function.

Massage can help soften scar tissue that forms after surgery or injuries, improving tissue flexibility and reducing discomfort.

For chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia or arthritis, massage can provide relief by relaxing muscles and increasing circulation.

Athletes often use massage to aid recovery by reducing muscle soreness and speeding up the healing of minor injuries.

In some cases, massage can be part of a post-surgery rehabilitation plan, helping to reduce swelling and pain while promoting healing.

FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a unique system of table-based assisted stretching that focuses on the muscles and connective tissue surrounding and encompassing your joints. It is great for recovery, improving mobility, and alleviating pain.

Fascia is a network of layered connective tissue running through your entire body, surrounding muscles, bones and joints. Using gentle traction, PNF (a type of active stretching), and breathwork, we encourage your nervous system to let go of any tension that is causing any restrictions within your fascia.

*Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing for your appointment, as there is no draping for these appointments.*

ACUPUNCTURE

CONTEMPORARY MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE

Contemporary medical acupuncture is an approach to acupuncture that incorporates principles and techniques from traditional Chinese and modern Western medicine. It aims to blend the ancient wisdom of acupuncture with the scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to provide a holistic approach to healthcare.

Acupuncture points are based on the location of nerves, muscles, and connective tissues. This approach is often referred to as "neuroanatomical acupuncture."

The patient's medical history and current health condition are assessed at the beginning of the appointment. This assessment helps to tailor the acupuncture treatment to each individual case.

The goals of contemporary medical acupuncture can vary widely depending on the patient's condition. It may be used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, promote relaxation, or stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms.

TRADITIONAL CHINESE ACUPUNCTURE - Registered Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years in China and other parts of East Asia. It is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which views the body as a complex system of energy, known as "qi" or "chi," flowing through channels or meridians. When this energy flow is disrupted or imbalanced, it is believed to result in illness or pain.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points of the body. These points are located along the meridians where qi is thought to flow. The needles are typically left in place for a short period, often around 20-30 minutes.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture is rooted in the concept of qi, which is believed to be vital energy that flows through the body. Meridians are pathways in the body through which qi flows. There are 12 primary meridians and 8 extraordinary meridians, each associated with specific organs and functions.

Before administering acupuncture, a TCM practitioner will diagnose the patient's condition by examining various factors such as the pulse, tongue, and other physical symptoms. This assessment helps determine the pattern of qi imbalance and which meridians need to be treated.

The goal of acupuncture is to restore the balance of qi in the body. This can involve either tonifying (strengthening) areas of deficiency or dispersing (clearing) areas of excess energy. The specific approach depends on the patient's individual condition.

Traditional Chinese acupuncture treats physical and mental health conditions, including pain management, digestive disorders, respiratory problems, stress, anxiety, and more.

CUPPING THERAPY

The application of Silicone or plastic cups are placed on the skin using suction to provide a negative pressure sensation. This differs from massage, which adds pressure to the body. Negative pressure can be effective in areas that are overly sensitized and may not respond well to pressure or areas of our body that feel "compressed". This novel sensation provides a different stimulus for your nervous system to focus on instead of the pain or discomfort you may be feeling. Ideally, this will allow your nervous system to relax and let go of this response.
